John Cordts, LMFT

With over 25 years of experience in mental health, John Cordts brings a depth of wisdom, warmth, and clinical expertise to every client he works with. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, or codependency, John creates a space where healing feels not just possible — but within reach.

John's educational journey is anything but ordinary. He holds two master's degrees — one in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Fullerton, and another in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. In between, he pursued advanced graduate studies in East-West Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, weaving together the insights of Western psychology with the timeless wisdom of Eastern spiritual traditions. (Yes, he's that kind of therapist — the kind who's done the work on multiple levels. 🌿)

Today, John's approach is a thoughtful integration of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based practices, including a certificate in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and specialized clinical training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps clients move toward what matters most to them, even in the midst of life's hardest moments.

At the heart of John's work is a deeply humanistic and existential philosophy rooted in a few core beliefs: that every person has unconditional worth, that meaning and purpose are essential to a life well-lived, and that human beings have a remarkable capacity to transcend suffering and grow. He works with adults from late teens through retirement, meeting each person exactly where they are on their unique journey.

When he's not in session, you'll likely find John meditating, moving his body, or somewhere out in nature — soaking in the beauty and stillness that he also helps his clients discover within themselves.
